Interfaith of Hancock – Subcontractor to SEEDCO
The Interfaith Service Coalition began in 1989 through a cooperative effort of the churches of the Greater Hancock, MD area in an effort to consolidate the various community outreach and support efforts being done by the many helping organizations in the community. ISC is an independent, nonprofit 501(c)3 organization, governed by a volunteer board of directors.
The Mission of the ISC is to assist individuals and families in times of need, whether it’s physical, emotional, financial or spiritual. The ISC has as part of its goal a commitment to promote individual dignity and self-worth, encouraging and supporting those it serves to help themselves and others.
The ISC serves not only the town of Hancock, but also surrounding communities in both Pennsylvania and Maryland as they are able, though some grant monies are required to be used only for Hancock residents. Our basic services help community members who are in need of assistance with food, shelter and clothing. As funds allow, we are able to help with eviction and utility cutoff prevention. We can also provide emergency clothing, food and shelter to those affected by disaster.
The ISC collaborates with many other community organizations, churches, schools, health care providers, social service agencies and civic organizations to try to meet the needs of our clients. We also coordinate the delivery of goods and services as needed. We strive to develop new programs and services as they are needed, and as funds and resources allow.
We have several ongoing outreach programs to serve the needs of our clients, including the Good Samaritan House, Loaves and Fishes thrift store, S.H.I.P. food program, Adventures in Friendship daycamp, and “Keep a Senior Safe and Warm” program.
