The Charles Koiner Center for Urban Farming (CKC) offers Urban Farmer Internships to high school and college students. Interns receive the rare opportunity to work at Montgomery County’s only urban farm, Koiner Farm. The one-acre Koiner Farm is located in downtown Silver Spring (just two blocks from the Silver Spring Library) and has been in operation at this location since 1979. Interns will receive hands-on farming experience, learn about seed starts, crop rotation, companion planting, diagnosing common plant symptoms and more, and will also have the opportunity to pursue approved projects related to their area(s) of interest. Interns are expected to dedicate four hours per week for a minimum of 12 weeks, in exchange for Student Service Learning hours, college credit or a stipend.
